Comments: Scotch Broom is a shrubby plant that is used on difficult sites. The main ornamental trait is the flowers which are yellow on the species, but can be red, pink, white or purple on cultivars. Expect some winter injury in cold climates but the plant usually manages to recover. Scotch broom prefers sandy soils.



Cultivars

Some of the cultivars in this list are hybrids.


'Allgold' - Dark yellow flowers. This cultivar is C. x praecox.

'Burkwoodii' - Red flowers with brownish wings having a narrow gold border.

'Lena' - Lemon yellow blooms with ruby-red wings.

'Lilac Time' - Deep, reddish purple blooms on a plant smaller than other cultivars.

'Lucky' - Large, apricot-colored flowers.

'Minstead' - Small white flowers flushed with lilac, with deeper purple on the wings and buds.

'Moonlight' - Yellow flowers.

x praecox - (Warminster Broom) - A plant 6 feet (2 m) tall produces yellow flowers.
