Buying Flowers Online

A reputable online florist is there to enable you to order flowers when you want - even in the middle of the night - and quickly and easily. In the online florist web site you will see many images depicting how the flowers that are being sold will look. And sometimes you can click on the image to bring up a larger picture of the display.

In purchasing flowers online there are a few things to consider and bear in mind so that you can be sure you shop in safety and are fully aware of what to expect.

Make Sure You Read the Terms and
Conditions Before Ordering

Each online florist should have its own customer service page, which will give you all the relevant information on the terms and conditions of buying from them. This will include any sales tax, service charges, flower delivery details and after-sales support. You should definitely read about this before you place your order.

Know the Delivery Times and Charges

Some online florists include the delivery cost in the price shown for each floral arrangement. Other internet shops add on the charge for delivery when you reach the check out, just before you enter your credit card details. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before you place your order so that you know what to expect and won't be taken aback by extra charges.

For really fast delivery on the same day as you order you will probably have to pay a bit extra. You should also find out if they can send flowers on weekends and on bank holidays.

Information to Have Available When
Ordering

You will need to have the recipient's full name, address and telephone number ready. Also a work telephone number. It is helpful if you can say when the recipient will be at home, or if there is someone that you would like the flowers left with (such as a specific neighbor), if no one is at home. Or if there are any other special delivery instructions.

It is a good idea to write out beforehand the message you want to send on the card that is included with the flowers. But if you are unsure what to say, you may find messages on the web site, or even leave it for the florist to say something appropriate.

And obviously you will need to have your payment details to hand. Also work out how much you want to spend so that you don't get carried away and go over your limit when sending flowers.

Make Sure You Are On a Secure Server
When Placing Your Order

It is important that, before you give your credit card details, you make sure that the site is using a secure server. With this, your order details are encrypted before sending them over the Internet using what is called secure socket layer (SSL) technology. All the personal information that you send (including credit card numbers, names, addresses, and telephone numbers) is specially encrypted in a secure code so that it cannot be read by anyone else as it passes over the Internet, until reaching your online florist.

You can tell when you are in a secure server because the address of the web site in the address location bar will change from http://www... to https://www... . (note the extra 's' after http).

Also a padlock in the bottom of your browser window will appear locked or highlighted indicating that the site is secure.

After Placing Your Order

You should always either print out your order confirmation, or note down the order number or sales reference number in case of any query later. Also keep a record of the customer services phone number.

You might consider receiving the florist's newsletter, if they produce one. This is sent by email and gives news of any special offers or discounts. Useful if you are sending flowers online regularly.

Some florists also operate a reminder service, so that you don't miss those important dates.
